"The urine PCR test I used was able to not only detect a polymicrobial urinary tract infection, but results include a personalized treatment regimen. My patient presented on day 9 of Macrodantin for continued urinary symptoms. In office urinalysis revealed positive leukocytes and blood which suggested continued infection despite initial empiric antibiotic treatment. PCR results were not only returned to me between 24-48 hours, but PCR detected five pathogens, none of which were covered by Macrodantin.
