Choice PharmD: Choice PharmD is a lab consulting firm that reviews PCR test results for infections and generates interpretive reports. These tests can be complex and difficult to interpret, so our reports explain what the results mean for the patient and provide treatment considerations that physicians can use when deciding how to treat an infection.
Interviewer: Why was there a need for this type of service in the market?
Choice PharmD: Several existing solutions relied heavily on algorithms and computer-generated reports without clinical oversight. That can work for simple cases, but when results are more complicated, those systems fall short. We saw a need for a more clinically sound solution that prioritizes patient care and provides actionable guidance providers can trust.
Interviewer: How does your service actually work from start to finish?
Choice PharmD: When we onboard a lab, we integrate with their LIS system. Once a sample is run, the results are sent to our pharmacists. We use algorithms to generate suggested regimens, but a clinical pharmacist reviews every result, adjusting for patient-specific factors like allergies, kidney function, or age. The final report is then sent back to the lab and delivered to the provider.
Interviewer: What makes your reports more actionable for providers?
Choice PharmD: Our reports balance being comprehensive and concise. Providers don’t have time to read long reports, so we focus on what’s most clinically relevant and actionable. Every report is reviewed by a pharmacist, and providers can reach out directly to us through a QR code or phone number if they have questions.
